Fire at structure reported at two South Austin businesses

Firefighters arrived on the scene and a second alarm went off for the warehouse, which was 200,000 square feet. The roof was engulfed in flames.

AUSTIN, Texas — A structure fire was reported on East St. Elmo Road early Friday morning.

The Austin Fire Department (AFD), tweeted at 4:22 AM that there was an alarm due to a structure fire at 400 Block East St. Elmo Road, East Congress District of South Austin. ICON 3D-prints homes, and this is the location of their business. 

After firefighters arrived on the scene, a second alarm was set off for the warehouse measuring 200,000 square feet. The roof had caught fire. The warehouse is located near the original fire. 

Steven Truesdale, AFD Division Chief, stated that the fire had spread into the front building from the back. Due to the large fire we received on our arrival, it took us a while getting the fire under control.

According to AFD there were no other buildings in the immediate vicinity that were at risk from the flames. AFD reported that investigators were present on the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. 

The initial investigation revealed that the fire started at The Yard, a commercial complex that houses multiple businesses. The fire then spread to ICON’s Building. 

ICON tweeted Friday afternoon It stated that the fire will not have any “meaningful impact” upon its business activities.

“When we arrived, [the building on fire] The one currently in construction was the one. Trusedale said that it appeared to be open. It looks empty except for the construction equipment.
